چکیده

Fipronil (Termidor 80 WG) was applied to covered and exposed plots at one secondary and four primary USDA Forest Service termiticide test sites in the U.S. Residue analyses and bioassays of soil samples were conducted over 5 y. Fipronil had an exponential decay at all sites. The DT 50 of fipronil in a silt loam soil in Oktibbeha Co., MS in covered and exposed plots was 202 and 177 d, respectively. Fipronil dissipation appeared to be faster at the secondary site (Oktibbeha Co, MS) compared to the primary tests sites. Dissipation was faster in covered plots in AZ and MS compared to FL and SC; while that in exposed plots was similar among sites. In 7 d bioassays, termite penetration of soil cores from primary test sites was significantly greater in exposed plots (33.9 ± 1.2 mm) than that from covered plots (25.7 ± 1.2 mm). Differences in termite penetration and termite mortality between covered and exposed plots at the secondary test site were not significant. Average distance penetrated by termites, averaged over treatments and primary sites, significantly increased during the last three years (37.2 mm) of sampling compared to the first three sampling times (20.7 mm). Termite mortality averaged over sites and years for covered and exposed plots was not significantly different. Freundlich adsorption coefficients (K f), determined from adsorption isotherms, ranged from 0.14 on a gravelly sand (Pima Co., AZ) to 5.47 on a silt loam (Oktibbeha Co. MS).

Toxicity ofFipronil in Mississippi Soil Types Against Reticulitermes jlavipes (Isoptera: Rhinotermitidae)

63 Three soils (a silt loam, loamy sand, sandy loam) found in Mississippi and pure silica sand were treated with fipronil and bioassayed using eastern subterranean termites, Reticulitermes jlavipes. Soils were treated with aqueous solutions ofTermidor (fipronil) at concentrations of 0, 0.12, 0.25,2.5, 5.0 and 20.0 ppm (wt AI: wt soil) that brought the soils to 15% moisture. Estimated lethal con...

Effects of termiticide exposure on mutual interactions between the treated and untreated workers of the Asian subterranean termite Coptotermes gestroi.

BACKGROUND Mutual interactions, including reciprocal food sharing and grooming between chlorantraniliprole- and fipronil-treated, and untreated Asian subterranean termites, Coptotermes gestroi (Wasmann), were examined using rubidium as a tracer. Two questions were addressed in this study: (1) After insecticide treatment, does the mutual interaction between termiticide-treated termites and untre...

Influence of temperature on rate of uptake and subsequent horizontal transfer of [14C]fipronil by eastern subterranean termites (Isoptera: Rhinotermitidae).

The effect of temperature on [14C]fipronil uptake and transfer from donor (D) to recipient (R) Reticulitermes flavipes (Kollar) (Isoptera: Rhinotermitidae) workers was evaluated. Test chambers used in the fipronil uptake study were constructed from petri dishes containing autoclaved soil treated with 1 ppm [14C]fipronil (1.14 microCi of total radioactivity per petri dish), distilled water, and ...

HOUSEHOLD AND STRUCTURAL INSECTS Evaluation of Efficacy and Nonrepellency of Indoxacarb and Fipronil- Treated Soil at Various Concentrations and Thicknesses Against Two Subterranean Termites (Isoptera: Rhinotermitidae)

The efÞcacy and nonrepellency of indoxacarb (150 SC, 150 g [AI]/liter) and Þpronil (Termidor SC, 9.1% [AI]) against Þeld-collected eastern subterranean termite,Reticulitermes flavipes (Kollar), and the Formosan subterranean termite,Coptotermes formosanus Shiraki, were evaluated for mortality and penetration into treated soil in laboratory glass tube bioassays. Both insecticides were tested at Þ...

Concentration-dependent degradation of three termiticides in soil under laboratory conditions and their bioavailability to eastern subterranean termites (Isoptera: Rhinotermitidae).

Degradation and bioavailability of imidacloprid, fipronil, and bifenthrin applied at label rates ([AI], wt:wt in soil) in the loamy soil of Nebraska were determined over a 6-mo duration. Based on the calculated half-lives of the three termiticides, it was concluded that the degradation rate was lowest when a termiticide was applied at the highest label rate. Bioassays of Reticulitermes flavipes...
